St. Sophia Erected, and a Deacon Ordained
By decree of His Grace Bishop John Michael Botean, our community was canonically erected as St. Sophia Romanian Byzantine Catholic Outreach. Days later the bishop came to Bryan–College Station, where he ordained Alexandru Hening to the holy diaconate, baptized an infant, and received a woman into full communion with the Catholic Church.

Our Monthly Divine Liturgies Have Begun
On Sunday, September 6, our community celebrated its first monthly Divine Liturgy at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bryan, offered by Rev. Richard Hinkley, STL, and followed by a potluck in the Parish Activity Center. Thanks be to God for a joyful beginning, and to St. Joseph parish for their generous welcome.
The Divine Liturgy is now celebrated monthly on Sundays at 4:00 PM, with confessions from 3:00 to 3:30 PM, and the Typika service prayed on many of the Sundays in between, so that our community is never two Sundays without gathering. The full schedule is posted on the parish calendar.

Alexandru Hening Instituted to the Subdiaconate
On Sunday, May 31, 2026 — the First Sunday after Pentecost — Bishop John Michael Botean tonsured Dr. Alexandru Hening as a Reader and instituted him as a Subdeacon at the Blessed Martyr Bishops Byzantine Catholic Mission in Nashville, during an eparchial pilgrimage with the relics of the Blessed Romanian Martyr Bishops. We give thanks to God for this joyful step in service to the Church.

A New Mission Takes Root
With the blessing of Bishop John Michael Botean, our community has begun the journey toward becoming a mission of the Romanian Byzantine Catholic Eparchy of St. George. For now, we gather to pray the Typika and to share fellowship as we grow.
