Glory to Jesus Christ — Glory Forever

St. Sophia Mission

A Byzantine Catholic community in Bryan-College Station

Bryan-College Station, Texas
A new mission in formation — blessed by Bishop John Michael Botean

About Our Mission

A home for the Christian East in the heart of Texas.

St. Sophia Mission is a new Byzantine Catholic community taking root in Bryan-College Station. Growing out of the Eastern Catholics of BCS prayer and fellowship group, we are beginning the process of becoming an official mission of the Romanian Greek Catholic Eparchy of St. George in Canton, Ohio, with the blessing of Bishop John Michael Botean.

We are fully Catholic—in complete communion with the Pope and the universal Church—while worshiping according to the ancient Byzantine tradition of the Christian East. For now, we gather to pray the Typika service together followed by fellowship, and monthly celebrations of the Divine Liturgy will begin soon.

We are named in honor of St. Sophia the Martyr—whose name means "Wisdom"—and in memory of the great church of Hagia Sophia, Holy Wisdom, the heart of Byzantine Christianity for a thousand years. Both point us to Christ Himself, the Wisdom of God.
